Kimberley Photographing My Childhood Best Friend and Her Family
This summer, I had the chance to photograph someone incredibly special—my best friend Mandy. We’ve been inseparable since we were ten years old, growing up together in the Netherlands and sharing every chapter of life, from awkward teen years to the beautiful chaos of motherhood. Even though we now live on opposite sides of the world, our friendship still feels just as solid as it did when we were kids.
While I was back home visiting family, I couldn’t resist planning a session with Mandy and her crew at Prinsenbos in Naaldwijk. This park holds so much meaning to me—it’s peaceful, full of greenery, and honestly one of my favorite spots to shoot in the Netherlands. It was the perfect place to document this moment in her family’s life.
From Childhood Photoshoots to Family Portraits
Mandy has seen my photography journey from the very beginning. We used to take photos of each other for fun, often just to update our social media profile pictures—playing around with poses, lighting, and angles. Looking back, I can honestly say I learned the basics of portrait photography with her by my side. I never imagined that those childhood photoshoots would be the foundation of a career I love so deeply.
Getting to photograph her as a mom, with her beautiful family by her side, was a full-circle moment I’ll always cherish.
Watching Her Shine as a Mom
Mandy is such a strong, grounded, and loving mother. Watching her raise her kids with intention and care fills me with pride. She’s doing an amazing job navigating life, and I feel so lucky to capture a glimpse of that in these photos.
Sessions like this are more than just taking beautiful pictures. They’re about preserving real moments, celebrating growth, and reflecting on the journey that’s led us here.
Why This Session Meant So Much
Being behind the camera for this family session felt like photographing my own story. Mandy isn’t just a friend—she’s part of the roots of who I am. Seeing how far we’ve both come, now as women, moms, and business owners, is something I’ll always hold close.
