Kimberley When I think about what I love most about being a family photographer, it’s the stories behind the images. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a family at Lettuce Lake Park, a location known for its natural beauty and peaceful setting. But what made this session truly special was the family itself and the story they brought with them.
A Remarkable Foster Mom
This family reached out to me last minute, hoping to capture some meaningful photos with their mom. We planned a session at Lettuce Lake Park, which is a perfect spot for both candid and posed shots. As we started walking and chatting, I learned something incredible about this family. Their mom has fostered over 50 children in her lifetime, and the youngest two in these photos are the last kids she fostered.
Hearing about her journey and the impact she’s had on so many lives was both humbling and inspiring. Foster care isn’t easy, but it was clear that this mom approached it with an open heart and a strong sense of purpose. It was also touching to see the bond she shared with her biological daughters, who were just as warm and caring as their mother.
We spent time photographing the family as a whole, as well as capturing individual portraits of mom with her daughters. The connection between them was so genuine, and I wanted to make sure that came through in every shot. I loved capturing those small moments—whether it was a laugh shared between the youngest kids or a quiet moment between mom and her daughters.
The Beauty of Lettuce Lake Park
Lettuce Lake Park is one of my favorite places to shoot family sessions. With its towering trees, shaded pathways, and open spaces, it provides plenty of opportunities to create both candid and posed photos. During this session, we made the most of the beautiful natural light filtering through the trees, which gave the photos a warm and inviting feel.
The park’s scenery provided a stunning backdrop that enhanced the emotions in the photos. From wide family shots to close-ups that captured the bond between family members, the location truly added to the experience. It’s always a pleasure photographing at a location that not only looks beautiful but allows families to feel comfortable and at ease.
