Kimberley You know how sometimes you meet someone and instantly feel like you’ve been friends forever? That’s exactly how it was when this gorgeous fellow photographer from Minnesota booked a session with me. She’s a portrait photographer too, and there’s just this instant connection when you’re talking with someone who gets your world.
She was visiting Florida for her babymoon—soaking up the sunshine before welcoming her second little one. I love that she carved out time during her trip to document this season of life. Maternity sessions are always special, but when I get to photograph another photographer, it’s such an honor. We spoke the same creative language from the very first click of the shutter.
My First Honeymoon Island Session
Even though I’ve been in Florida for years, this was actually my first time photographing at Honeymoon Island—and now I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. This spot has such a raw, natural beauty. I’m obsessed with the driftwood scattered along the shore, the little ocean pebbles dotting the sand, and the way the light hits that stunning knocked-over tree (probably from a hurricane) that’s now become its own piece of beach art. It was the perfect backdrop for her laid-back, glowing energy.
Creating the Vision Together
What made this session even better was how seamlessly our ideas blended. She had her vision, I had mine, and without even trying, they meshed into something even better. She was completely up for exploring, walking barefoot through the pebbles, leaning against the driftwood, and letting the salty breeze play with her hair. We laughed, we talked photography, and we created images that felt like art.
A Session I’ll Treasure
This wasn’t just about taking pretty photos—it was about connection, creativity, and capturing a woman in such a beautiful chapter of her life. I’m wishing her an amazing rest of her pregnancy, a smooth delivery, and all the joy that comes with adding another little soul to the family. And if she ever comes back to Florida? You better believe we’ll be heading right back to Honeymoon Island for round two.
