Kimberley Inspiration Behind the Session
Every once in a while, a creative idea comes along that you can’t stop thinking about. For me, it was the vision of a flying-dress session — dramatic fabric, glowing light, and an elegant, confident woman in motion.
The inspiration came from a friend’s photo session in Santorini, Greece. The images were so striking that I immediately knew I wanted to create my own version right here in Florida. I ordered a beautiful flowing dress in a soft, flattering color and added it to my client closet so others could enjoy it for both maternity and non-maternity sessions.
Bringing the Vision to Life
When it came time to photograph it for the first time, I couldn’t think of anyone better than my dear friend Jackie. She’s a beautiful soul — confident, open-minded, and always up for a creative challenge. From the moment she put on the dress, I knew this session would be something special.
The dress can be tied and styled in several different ways, allowing us to play with movement and shape throughout the shoot. Jackie made it look effortless — every turn, every breeze, every soft movement of the fabric told a story. She truly brought this vision to life.
Discovering a New Favorite Location
We decided to photograph the session at Saint Leo University, a location I had never used before. The moment I arrived, I was in awe of the architecture — grand arches, textured stone, and that peaceful atmosphere that feels both timeless and inviting.
As the sun began to set, the light poured through the arches and over the little church in the background, giving everything a warm glow. It couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for this session. The combination of the dress’s movement, the natural light, and Jackie’s energy created a collection of images that felt romantic, elegant, and powerful all at once.
Why I Love the Flying-Dress Concept
Sessions like this remind me how much fun it can be to step outside of routine and try something new. The flying-dress concept brings a sense of freedom and grace to any session — it’s bold but still soft, dramatic yet natural.
I love that this dress can be used for so many different session types — maternity, portrait, or even branding for women who want something eye-catching and empowering. It’s now officially part of my client closet, available for future sessions.
